This is our most popular journey and a true classic, starting with a few days in the Amazon jungle and including the Sacred Valley of the Incas, Machu Picchu and Cuzco, the capital of the Inca Empire, before travelling up to Lake Titicaca and across to La Paz in Bolivia.

Day 1

Fly to Lima

You will be met on arrival and driven to your hotel. Larcomar in the Miraflores district has some great restaurants, shops and cafes with a view over the ocean which, together with nearby Parque del Amor, is very popular with locals at dusk.

Day 2

Amazon Rainforest

Fly to Puerto Maldonado and transfer to your jungle lodge, your base from which to explore the surrounding rainforest.

Day 3

Excursions in the jungle.

Excursions and activities in the jungle, such as alligator spotting by flashlight from a dugout canoe, walking tours through primary and secondary rainforest, birdwatching and, hopefully catching glimpses of monkeys.

Day 4


Three nights is an ideal length for a first-time visit to the jungle.

Day 5

Sacred Valley

Return to Puerto Maldonado and fly to Cuzco. You will be met at the airport and driven straight down to the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Afternoon tour of the impressive Inca fortress of Ollantaytambo.

Day 6

Sacred Valley

Morning excursion to the Maras salt pools which have been used since pre-Inca times. Free afternoon for other activities and excursions, please let us know if you would like us to prebook anything in particular such as cycling or riding, or perhaps a visit to the Amaru community to learn about the traditional weaving process from sheering, spinning and dyeing wools to production work on hand looms.

Day 7

Machu Picchu

Travel by train to Machu Picchu, Latin America's most important site which was rediscovered by Hiram Bingham in 1911. We offer a range of accommodation in the local village but early booking is essential if you wish to stay at the Sanctuary Lodge next to the ruins.

Day 8


Free morning to return to Machu Picchu or to explore the local village. In the afternoon return by train to the Sacred Valley and continue by road to your hotel in Cuzco.

Day 9


Half-day tour in the morning to take in some of the key sites and places of most interest in and around Cuzco, including the cathedral, the Plaza de Armas and Sacsayhuaman, the impressive Inca fortress which overlooks the city. Free afternoon to explore in your own time but please let us know if you would like to discuss any particular activities.

Day 10


Free day in Cuzco.

Day 11

Travel to Lake Titicaca

The Andean Explorer train runs on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays with an additional service on Fridays between October and April only. Otherwise there is a daily bus service. We will arrange transfers between your hotel and the bus or train station at each end accordingly.

Day 12

Lake Titicaca

Full day excursion on Lake Titicaca to the floating Uros Islands and to either Taquile or Amantani islands.

Day 13

Isla del Sol

The journey from Puno travels via Copacabana and then by hydrofoil or catamaran to reach the Island of the Sun. Overnight in a local hotel.

Day 13

La Paz

Continue across Lake Titicaca and travel by road through the Bolivian altiplano to reach La Paz. The first glimpse of the city as it opens up in the valley below is astonishing.

Day 14

La Paz

Half day tour of La Paz with special insight into the city with the help of a shoe-shiner for part of the itinerary. The tour continues to the Moon Valley. Free afternoon.

Day 15

Depart La Paz

Transfer to the airport in time to check in for your flight home.
